A Cabana and a Velvet Margarita

Filed under: Posts — KZalan @ 03:30:54 pm

Happy Halloween everyone! So this past weekend I escaped into an underground Mexican cantina and the next day into a Mediterranean-style getaway. Surprisingly, I did this all without leaving Hollywood. Friday night I joined some friends at La Velvet Margarita Cantina. The great thing about Hollywood is feeling sometimes like you are in fact on a set without actually being on one. This place could have easily passed for a scene in a Tarantino movie or at least a creepy restaurant dream sequence in A Nightmare Before Cinqo De Mayo. Behind the bar they play black and white Mexican cult films. Hearty proportions of food and nice presentation along with great service. It's dark, colorful, underground and has enough distractions in case your date is boring and you suddenly find yourself with wandering eyes. This is the place waiting rooms should be modeled after.

The next day, I made an appearence at a birthday party at the Cabana Club. Luckily my party reserved a couple cabanas outdoor and since it was a nice night, it was the perfect setting. This place was like walking into a different country in the heart of Hollywood. Complete with palm trees, cabanas, waterfalls and even a shallow pool, the owners really nailed the theme they were going for. It's a scene built for celebs and the unending line outside for all waiting to gain entrance who most likely will not. I have to admit, for those that do, it's definitely worth the wait. By the end of the night, my party was among the last to leave and like all great nights it ended with a memorable moment. Partying by a pool leads to the inevitable and I know I always secretly hope for someone to fall in and sure enough someone did. For all the male drunken eyes a poor girl with a sheer dress on and obviously no bra brought new meaning to "It ain't over till..." I think I prefer this girl to the fat lady any day.

Vegas 911

Hey everyone. So my car is back but with all the craziness happening recently in L.A. my girlfriends and I decided we were in a state of emergency in which could only be cured in the form of a trip to Vegas. We arrived late Friday night and started the remedy at club Pure in Caesar's. We felt as if we were walking into an oxymoron of heavenly temptation and of course, we gave in. We then checked out Body English at Hard Rock Cafe where we stayed and then called it a night. Saturday we checked out Tangerine at Treasure Island which is the burlesque like club that Carmen Elektra was behind. After that we headed to ICE which is one of the biggest clubs I've ever been in. This is a place that truly defines a club.
Ironically, while in the city of sin I obtained some sanity for my well being. I slowly but surely began to forget about some of the things that had been bothering me so much and I questioned the uncertainty of this feeling in relation to the alcohol I consumed but days later (sober) I realized that I really did feel better. Situations and people that had been bothering me seemed to disappear. I guess that's why people say "they need to get away" when things get hairy. It certainly worked for me. It was a win win situation, I cured my worry and had a hell of a time doing it.

True Hollywood Spoiler

Hey all, well, unfortunately I had a horrible weekend which put a damper on the party plans. As of Saturday I became a victim of the huge auto theft problem in Los Angeles. In addition to that, my house was broken into as well and burglarized. Sadly, my laptop, Taylor guitars, and other valuables were stolen. I've been trying to gather my thoughts and self together but am desperately trying to cope with the losses I've recently experienced. I guess in cases like these, it's better to try and move on and figure out where to go from there even though all I want to do is track down whoever did this and make sure they never do this again, much less breathe. But, I'll leave that to the karma police and hope for the better.
So before my night was brutally spoiled, I headed out to the Belmont on Friday night which was pretty cool. I went with my mystery man and we tried every martini on the menu. After that we decided to go to Jones which is one of my favorite spots in Hollywood and we ended up talking to two people who I couldn't figure out if they were male of female. I know it sounds crazy but one looked like a cross between Michael Jackson and Robert Downey Jr. Kinda like the son in Nip/Tuck. Anyway, maybe it was the alcohol affecting my vision or maybe we just had the best time with two trannys! But sorry I don't have more exciting news, I spent a glamourous Sunday morning at the L.A.P.D. filing reports and calling insurance. To make it worse, it's pouring here in L.A. I guess now is the time to look for that silver lining. Take care everyone and lock your doors!

ABCD Element F Geisha House

So Element has since taken action as the "spot" of the moment in L.A. Since opening its doors to the public late last month, stars such as Nicole Ritchie and Lindsay Lohan have been more than happy to grace the club with their ever ready presence. I happened to be there for this star studded night complete with an all you can "see" buffet of A,B,C, and D listers. Lately in Hollywood I've been noticing that's it not about how much money you have but instead, how much air time you've acquired on T.V. Take reality stars or a.k.a. free working entertainment for the networks. They're not paid (most of the time) yet their mug becomes easily recognizable and boom, they're in. Like the stars of Laguna Beach (Lauren, Kristin and Steven) who have infiltrated L.A. with no hesitation to take advantage of the loose drinking privileges for underage "celebrities". This is what we have come to know as D listers. Instead of her usual Laguna posse, she was clinging to "Prince of Malibu" star Brody Jenner. Among others were Kirsten Dunst who kicked some guys out of the men's bathroom to place a phone call and Lindsay Lohan partied with birthday girl Nicole Ritchie who has since replaced the Hilton sisters with the Traina sisters. All in all it was a fun night. Afterall, instead of watching the drama on T.V., I got to watch it in real time. Brings new meaning to reality show.

So last night I went on a date with a celeb. No names...Since my complex underwent renovations, I resorted to a roll of quarters and solitaire at the nearest laundry mat. He walked in and I immediately noticed. While on his cell phone I overheard him say his washer just broke then his conversation quickly escalated into an argument. Girl...friend maybe? Once he was done I suddenly became bold. "Was it your fault?" I asked. He laughed and said no and soon we were chatting as we washed, dried, and folded. We said good bye and coincindentally bumped into him the next day at Runyon Canyon. We walked, talked and agreed on another laundry date later that week. On the third day he confessed his washer was fixed and all the questions he had been asking me for his "supposed" girlfriend was his way of finding out about me. We went out Saturday night to the Geisha House and I think our female bartender was hinting early on for a threesome. She was blatantly flirting with both of us asking repeatedly, "Is that dirty enough for you baby?" Referring to the martini of course, among other things and that's all I'm saying.
